Black Bodies White Gold Goes to Portugal

A year or so ago, I received an email from an artist in Portugal who had read my book (!) and invited me to work with her and colleagues on an exciting project on cotton in the Cape Verde islands. The plans for our collaboration have changed over time, but this weekend we’ll be meeting in person! I’ll be giving a lecture at a symposium called “Neve Insular 0,0003 – Algodão e Resistência” organised by artists Rita Rainho and Vanessa Monteiro, and held at the Centro Cultural de Cabo Verde CCCV. The exhibition and program brings together artists, curators, writers and thinkers to explore the material histories of cotton, and ecological practices of resistance.

I am excited, and honoured to have this opportunity to be in conversation with such an amazing community.
