Undisciplined Pleasures, Vigilant Defiance: In Conversation with Sarah K Khan

I am thrilled to be working with 12 Gates Arts and Sarah K Khan, to curate her solo show Undisciplined Pleasures, Vigilant Defiance which opened on March 6 2020. Sarah’s work amplifies often untold, womens’ stories, and this set of gilded prints draws its inspiration from the African, Turkic, Arabic and Central Asian women contained within the 16th-century Central Indian cookbook—The Book of Delights, commissioned by Sultan Ghiyath Shah (1469-1505).

On April 9 join Sarah, gallerist Aisha Khan and me for a conversation that delves into the lives of these warrior women and the imperative, imaginative work art can - must - do to create alternative futures for our present.
